Northwest Hunts

Transportation Mode and Hunt Style

All hunting carried out in 4 wheel drive vehicles on both the Elk and Deer Hunts.

Hunts in Unit 5a can be described as a little out of the norm. For the most part carry out our morning hunts in the traditional Spot and Stalk methods, looking over the open Parks and Sage covered Flats we have on the property. After our morning hunts we generally resort to the use of our ground blinds in the vicinity of the dozen or so waterhole locations we have constructed and constantly haul water to throughout the course of the year. We use this tactic a good deal because the terrain in 5a has some very thick under story such as Bigelow Sage, Rabbit brush, and Chamise as well as some very dense stands of Juniper and Pinon Pine trees. Although there are a few areas on the Ranch that we Walk and Stalk, the majority of it we don't due to the fact that it usually means pushing the Game out of the country.

Terrain and Elevation

Terrain in this Unit is pretty forgiving for the most part. The vegetation on this property consists mainly of dense Pinon Pine, and Juniper type trees with some very thick under story growth. There are three major ridges and two major arroyo systems that cut through this property, which provide for some excellent cover for the resident game and provides as well some very enjoyable scenery. The average elevation on the Ranch is between 7000 and 8000 feet above Sea Level. The Ranch is located approximately seven miles west of Lindrith, New Mexico.

Lodging, Meals, and Guiding

Our Clients for these hunts will be fed on site in a refurbished wooden cabin. The original cabin is Rustic and between it and the attached porch, makes the whole trip worthwhile and enjoyable. Lodging is in a newly constructed Cabin completed in 2005 that will comfortably house 8 guests. The house is complete with shower, restrooms, and running water, along with a wood stove for heating purposes, and a TV for recreational purposes. All meals are prepared on site by competent cooks, and all of our Guiding Staff, are local residents and Old West Staff, all very familiar with the surrounding area and the habits of the game. The ranch itself is rich in regards to historical value, having numerous Settlers Lodges, as well as an old Stage Coach stop along the well known Largo Wash, which runs through a good portion of the ranch. Our success rate for the Mule Deer hunts in this Unit are 100%, and 70 to 80% for the Elk, with high opportunity rates per hunter.
