Mideastern HuntsTransportation Mode and Hunt StyleAll hunting is done with the use of 4 wheel drive vehicles on both the Mule Deer and Antelope Hunts. Hunt style for the Mule Deer along the Pecos River consists mainly of the Spot and Stalk for the first two or three days. As hunting pressure moves the animals into the denser cover along the Pecos Rivers banks, Drive and Stand type hunting move into play to get the animals moving around and out of the Salt Cedar, and heavy Mesquite thickets, which can turn into some pretty exciting action at times. As for the Antelope hunts, these take place on some fairly open country and the most common type of system used is Spot and Stalk Terrain and ElevationTerrain in this unit is pretty forgiving for the most part, with rolling hills along the Pecos River Bottomland. The going can get a little tougher when encountering the mesquite dunes, or Salt Cedar thickets along the rivers edge. For the most part our Mule Deer and Antelope Hunts take place between 4000 and 4500 feet above Sea Level. The country we hunt has varied uses from Livestock grazing to Agricultural farming and borders a good deal of farmland. The river bottom itself consists of Salt Cedar, Russian Olive, and some ancient old Cottonwood trees planted back in the days when Ft. Sumner was an active Army outpost. Lodging, Meals, and GuidingOur Clients in this Unit will be housed in a refurbished Ranch House, Tents or RV's depending upon which ranch the Client ends up hunting on. The Billy the Kid Gravesite and Museum offer some great insight to our history in regards to how the West was settled and what all was involved in doing so. All meals are prepared on site by competent cooks, and all of our Guiding Staff are native to the surrounding area. Our success rate for the Antelope and Deer hunts which we host in this Unit are 100% + with opportunity rates per hunter generally averaging 300 to 400%.
